Commissioner Biographies

Commissioner Jim Hoppel is a lifelong resident of Columbiana County and is serving his 11th year as County Commissioner and in 2007 as President. Jim has been married for 32 years to his wife Bonnie and together they have four children, Wendy, Jim, Steven & Kara. Prior to serving the County as Commissioner, Jim was a school teacher and coach for the Board of Education. In his seven years on the Board, he spent five of those years as President. Jim also owns a real estate company (River Valley Realty) and in 1969 was inducted into the Bowling Green State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Commissioner Daniel T. Bing resides in Lisbon with his wife Jane. They have six children Jamie, Daniel Jr., Mikala, Erin, Jared and Kyle and have seven Grand Children Angela, Kayle, Shyanna, Timothy, Devon, Brady and Gannon. A longtime broadcaster at various Ohio and Florida Radio Stations including WMMS/WHK Cleveland, WPRY Perry Fla., WRCW Canton, WQXK/WSOM Salem, WRKY Steubenville, WELA/WOHI WOGF/ESPN East Liverpool, Dan is currently the radio voice of the East Liverpool Potters. He is also employed as a job developer for The Counseling Center assisting disabled individuals in securing employment and helps to develop viable business in Columbiana County.

Penny J. Traina was appointed in January 2007 to serve as Columbiana County Commissioner. She resides in Wellsville, Ohio and is the proud mother of two sons Alfonso and Anthony Traina. Penny was born and raised in Columbiana County. She resigned from her position as Wellsville Local School Districts Treasurer to take the position as Commissioner.

She is also on the Economic Development board of CF Bank.
