Nick Barborak was appointed to serve as Columbiana County Treasurer in January 2007.  He lives in Lisbon with his wife Brandy and their two dogs.

 

Nick was born and raised in Columbiana County.  He graduated from Lisbon David Anderson High School in 1993.  He later studied at Kent State University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science.  While at Kent, he served as treasurer of the College Democrats.  He was inducted in the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.  He held a position as a teaching assistant in a course entitled American National Government.  He served on the board of directors for the Community Service Counsel.  He volunteered at various charitable organizations.  During his junior year, he was named the Shirley Robb-Dubetz Law Scholar.    

 

            During his course of study, Nick served as an intern in the United States House of Representatives.  There, he assisted in drafting speeches, provided direct assistance to constituents with governmental concerns, researched numerous topics for his Congressman, and assisted in preparing legislation. 

 

            He later accepted a scholarship to the University of Akron School of Law, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor degree.  He served on the Akron Law Review, where his work focused primarily on Labor and employment issues.  His article on charitable fraud was selected for publication. 

           

            Upon graduation, he accepted a position as a law clerk to the Seventh District Court of Appeals.  He later served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Columbiana County and is a founding partner in Barborak Law Offices in Lisbon.  He is also involved with the Lisbon Kiwanis, the Lisbon Alumni Association Board, the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce, the Columbiana County Farm Bureau, the Lisbon Community Foundation and the Columbiana County Bar Association.
